RATNAGIRI - RATNAGIRI MONASTERY ..... AN UNIQUE CROWNING BUDDHIST MONUMENT

History describes much more about Ratnagiri, but tibetian record counts as one of the worthy record for its existance. However excavation conducted at this side in the year 1958-1961 unveiled many uniqueness of Ratnagiri Buddhist site. Large number of sculptures , inscribed slabs, terracota seals, votive stupas and an elaborate Buddhist monastic establishment came to light during this excavation. This excavation yielded the remains of an impressive stupas sorrounded by a large number of votive stupas of varing dimension, two quadrangular monastery , a single winged huge monastery with beautiful carved door jamb, specious opened courtyard , cells and verandas facing the courtyard and many more. Thing is that the existance of the temple with curvilinear tower is the only one of its
kindso far discoverd in orissa.
Ratnagiri is another pilgrimage related to Buddhism, near Udaigiri and Khandigiri caves, and has many significant Buddhist sculptures scattered around in the hill range. The excavations have revealed the relation of this place with the Gupta Dynasty, and this dates back to 6th Century AD. The huge monastery that has been excavated is thought to be
of Mahayana sect, showing that Buddhism spread through these areas in the later part, especially due to the
influence of the great kings such as Ashoka and those of the Gupta dynasty. There are also some other pieces of
Buddhist origin in this place including the monastery, stupas, chaityas etc.
Not only a religious pace, Ratnagiri was also a great place of learning for the Budhism of Tantric cult, known as Vajrayana. The Kalchakrayana also had flourished considerably in this place, as evident from the Tibetan Buddhist texts.

Location
Located in Jajpur district of Orissa, Ratnagiri lies at a distance of 100 km from Bhubaneswar, encompassed by rivers in all the directions. The rivers namely, Mahanadi, Brahmani, Kimiria and Birupa cover Ratnagiri from all directions.

Attractions
The stupas
The stupas are unsurpassable scenery as there are many small stupas around the big one, which makes the circumambulation nearly an impossible task. Various donors who, accordingly differentiated in materials, structure and constructions had donated these stupas.

These stupas, numerous and in varieties, portray a vivid picture of Buddhism in ancient India, in its fully bloomed phase. Moreover, they represent the only site with monolithic stupas in such dense manner, also due to the helping hand of the villagers who added stupas from the nearby places into the site.
The monasteries
The monastery holds in front of the visitor the splendid past of Ratnagiri, affluent and culturally rich, the proofs could be easily obtained from these delicately built monasteries. The monastery has 24 cells, a spacious courtyard, a shrine in the front and a lobby etc. The monastery is a proof of the superlative degree, of the richness, and flourishing of Buddhism in India is still hold high in the sentiments of the devoted Buddhist.

The exquisite artistry in the doorframe of the monastery makes everybody spell bound, with its chlorite stones offering it a lovelier finish than the most of the shrines in India. The doorway, with its delicately cut out figures of males and a border of a row of flowers invites everybody to explore in. Or, do they make one stand out of the shrine for more times?

NEW RECORD:With five releases in 2013, Sonakshi Sinha on a mission to set a new record?

Sonakshi Sinha is the B-Town actress with maximum film releases in 2013. The 26-year-old, who debuted in 2010, has done more films — 12 — than actresses who entered Bollywood before her.
She has acquired the reputation of being one of the workaholics, like Akshay Kumar, with whom she has done three films (and three cameo songs). The 12 films include a special appearance in Oh My God! in 2012, and three item songs (two in Boss and one inHimmatwala).
Next year she will have three releases with Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Arjun Kapoor. Does she plan to go on a signing spree and chalk up most releases again next year? She laughs, “Signing spree? No! I just feel most comfortable when I am working. It’s been a good year for me because I got to do good films. I also did three of my best roles in my career —LooteraR…Rajkumar and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara. I also worked with new actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Shahid Kapoor.”

The actress disagrees with the fact that she’s signing too many films and becoming the female equivalent of Akshay, who has maximum number of releases every year. “Though I take it as a huge compliment to be compared to Akshay, as he is one of the most hard working stars I know, I must add that I always sign a film instinctively and only if I feel very strongly about it. I don’t sign a film just for the sake of it. Just because people feel I am taking on too much work I can’t stop saying no to good roles or films, no?”
Sonakshi adds that she gets bored and restless when she is not working. “This is the only way I know to work — by being superbusy! When I have a free day, I don’t know what to do with myself. I would rather just be working.”
Before
Anushka Sharma who made her debut two years before Sonakshi (2008) has done seven films so far — Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Badmaash Company, Band Baaja Baaraat, Patiala House, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola.
After
Parineeti Chopra who made her debut a year after Sona (2011) has three releases — Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Ishaqzaade and Shuddh Desi Romance.
Same year
Shraddha Kapoor made her debut at the same time as the Dabangg girl (Teen Patti in 2010) and after that has acted in three films — Luv Ka The End, Aashiqui 2 and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.

Bigg Boss 7: Salman Khan is my guarding angel: VJ Andy

VJ Andy, the latest contestant to be ousted from the 'Bigg Boss' house, says it is because of the host, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan that he managed to make it to the top five.
The 33-year-old stylist, whose real name is Anand Vijay Kumar, said Salman's encouraging words for him made his stint in the controversial reality show easy.
"Salman is my guarding angel. He helped me sail through my stay in the house. Whenever I would feel low, he would come on Saturdays and lift my spirit. He was the one person who made my stay very easy. If it was not for him, I would not have made it to the top five in the show," Andy said.
Andy, who has styled songs in films like 'Tashan' and 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', was eliminated from the show after spending 100 days just three days before the grand finale. But he says he has no regrets of being evicted so near to the culmination of the show.
"I don't mind getting eliminated just days before the finale. For me getting to the top five is a great achievement in itself. It was a great journey for me. It was unpredictable, crazy and happy. I am taking away good friends from the show like Shilpa (Agnihotri), Tanisha (Mukherjee), Elli (Avram) and Sangram (Singh). I have also learnt the meaning of self-worth," Andy said.
The VJ, who was born in the UK, wants Tanisha to win the show as she is the most balanced person in the house and despite so much of pressure, she managed to maintain her sanity till the end.
"If not me then it has to be Tanisha. She has been the most consistent person in the house from day one. People have said so many things about her, ganged up against her but she never lost her sanity. Tanisha has worked very hard to be in the house," Andy said.
Andy has previously hosted shows like 'Get Gorgeous', 'Dare to Date', 'Beauty and the Geek' and won a cooking based reality show 'Welcome - Baazi Mehmaan-Nawaazi ki'. When asked what will be his next move post 'Bigg Boss', Andy said, "I want to do all kinds of things- be it films or TV. I want to have my own talk-show or a dating show. I would also love to go back and do theatre in London."
The final four contestants of the show now include Gauhar Khan, Ajaz Khan, Sangram, and Tanisha. The grand finale will be aired this Sunday.

Aamir Khan strikes gold with 'Dhoom 3', makes Rs200 crore in just 4 days,A noted trade pandit is of the opinion that the film has the potential to break all the previous Box Office records and may soon clinch the leading spot.

Khan essaying the central character in the multi-starrer, the film was bound to hit the jackpot and has already minted over Rs 200 crores in just 4 days!

And Mr Perfectionist of the Tinsel Town, who believes in doing not more than one film a year, has struck gold with the film which happens to be the third franchise of the ‘Dhoom’ series.

A noted trade pandit is of the opinion that the film has the potential to break all the previous Box Office records and may soon clinch the leading spot.

A non-holiday release, ‘Dhoom 3’, which has Aamir essaying the antagonist for the first time has broken the Box Office record set by Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’. The film has vroomed away and joined ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Krrish 3’ in the esteemed Rs 200 crore club.

Matric sample question-cum-answer papers released

Matric Result 2013  CLICK HERE

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) on Tuesday released sample question-cum-answer booklets to be used in the annual High School Certificate (HSC) Examinations 2013.

The sample booklet for English subject having total 100 marks and of two-and-a-half-hour duration has 14 pages. The first page is an information sheet where name and roll number will be written by examinees while teachers will also write marks for each question on the same page after evaluation. For a question carrying 10 marks, the booklet provides 40 lines for the answer to be written within 150 words. Similarly for a question of five marks, the answer should be within 50 words in 14 lines. Besides, there will be two additional pages for the use of students and two more pages will be given on demand.
“The booklet will not create any kind of confusion among students and teachers. The sample papers are prepared with utmost care,” said school and mass education minister Rabi Narayan Nanda.
The booklets, designed on CBSE pattern to check malpractice, question paper leak and erratic evaluation of answersheets, will be given to students for practice and feedback. The samples will also be uploaded in the BSE website.

“I practised in the booklet and found it quite handy for English paper. But I don’t know whether it will be equally good for other subjects as well,” said Anita Patra, a student of class-X in Capital High School. However, some students are skeptical. “Now we don’t have any option left except using the booklets in the exam. Had we used the booklets in pre-test and test examinations it would have been better for us,” said Rajesh Patra, another student of class-X.
The board authorities assured the students not to worry as measures will be taken to clear their doubts and queries about the new pattern. “The board will conduct seminars for teachers to make them acquainted with the new pattern, who would clear the doubts of students. Besides, students can collect the booklets for practice from schools or they may download them from the BSE website,” said D P Nanda, president of the board. (Source – The Times of India)
